Younger workers have probably always had a water cooler in their offices, but older employees remember the times before water coolers. Offices often had outdated water fountains for employees - the water was not cooled and often tasted bad. Of course water was drunk a lot less back then by people compared with soft drinks, tea or coffee. But the recent boom in bottled water and has led to the emergence of water coolers. Nowadays water coolers are standard in nearly all offices, and employees continue to use them regularly. Most employees drink from the water cooler at least three or four times a day, and usually during their breaks.
